Mold is a type of fungi found almost anywhere that moisture and oxygen are present. Mold thrives under the right conditions and multiplies quickly in moist environments.
Mold may form in areas where moisture is present for a long time. These include leaks, water in the crawl space, a previously flooded basement, or an improperly vented exhaust fan. People are exposed to mold when breathing spores, making contact with skin, or swallowing it. The type and severity of the health effects from mold exposure are difficult to predict. However, mold commonly causes allergy-like symptoms, but severe health problems can sometimes occur. Some symptoms of mold exposure are cough, wheeze, sore throat, nasal/sinus congestion, skin/eye irritation, and upper respiratory infections.
It’s important to know that black mold is a misconception because all molds can appear black, including Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium. Staceborious is known as the “Black Mold” because it can be deadly.
